Henk Jan Reinders is an economist and strategist working at the intersection of macroeconomics, public policy, and sustainability.
I am currently affiliated with the International Monetary Fund and the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and am based in Washington, DC. Previously, I held strategic advisory and economist positions at the Dutch Central Bank, the European Commission, and the World Bank. My educational background is in philosophy, physics, and economics.
Teaching
Climate Risk and Climate Finance
As an adjunct professor, I teach modules and guest lectures for students and professionals on the two-way interaction between climate change and finance. Two core modules are on climate risks (transition and physical risks) and the ways that finance can contribute to better climate outcomes (such as climate risk management, earmarked finance, carbon markets, and disaster risk insurance).
Research
Climate-Related Stress Testing (CRST)
My academic research focuses on assessing climate-related scenarios in their impact on the economy and the financial sector. It has been published in leading peer reviewed journals and in the form of working papers and book chapters. My recent contribution taking a financial (Merton based) approach to climate stress testing was published in the Journal of International Money and Finance.
